Seven days Primate Tour of Uganda

- SAMPLE ITINERARY -

Welcome to Uganda—the Pearl of Africa a country so rich in biodiversity with over 13 primate species. On this trip we will go through the rolling hills and highlands of Kigezi and we will arrive in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, a place we expect to meet endangered mountain gorillas.

Destinations: Lake Mburo National Park, Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, Kibale Forest National Park and Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary.

Day One

We will receive you from Entebbe International Airport, go have breakfast and there after drive to Lake Mburo National Park via Masaka City with a stop at the equator. We will check in at Rwakobo Rock Safari Lodge and accommodation type will be full board. After settling in at the lodge, we can do an evening game drive and then return to the Lodge for dinner.

Day Two

We wake up and have an early breakfast and then drive to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park with a brief stop at Lake Bunyonyi. We will go through Mbarara City, Ntugamo, Kabale and Kanungu and we will come across beautiful scenery from rolling hills of Ankole to the hills of Kigezi and we will check in at Mahogany Springs Lodge in Buhoma for two nights. Accommodation type is full board.

Day Three

After an early breakfast we head to the park Headquarters for the briefing by Uganda Wildlife Authority and thereafter we go to the long waited and dream experience of tracking gorillas. We expect to return early in the afternoon or late evening depending on the luck of the day (some times gorillas move a lot as they forage for food).

In the evening (4:30) we will take a visit to Batwa community and these will share their forest life experience plus performance of their cultural Dance. We will return to the lodge in time for dinner.

Day Four

After breakfast we drive to Kibale Forest National Park through Fort Portal City. We check in for two nights at Crater Safari Lodge and accommodation type is full board. In the evening we will do crater lakes walk.

Day Five

After early breakfast, we go to Kanyancu visitor Center for briefing and there after go chimpanzee tracking. In the evening a tour of Bigodi Community wetland is possible. This region has more primates and we expect to see at least nine primate species on our trip.

Day Six

After breakfast we will checkout of the hotel and drive to Entebbe via Fort Portal – Mubende
and Mityana. We will the check-in for an overnight stay at Boma Guest House in Entebbe.
Accommodation type is full board.

Day Seven

After breakfast, we head to waterfront beach where we board a boat to Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary. The Island is located in Lake Victoria south of Entebbe. We return from the sanctuary in time for lunch in Entebbe.

Afternoon we prepare to transfer to Entebbe International Airport for our flight back home.

  • Is Uganda safe?
    Uganda is one of the safest Countries in the world. She has very welcoming and hospitable people. The country’s priority is your safety as tourists and Uganda Tourism Police is a specialized wing to ensure your safety. Nevertheless, like any other country, always follow the guidelines to keep yourself safe.
  • When is the best time to do a safari in Uganda?
    Because Uganda is located on the Equator, you can visit any time of the year depending on specific safari needs, the country has favorable weather with alternating rainy and sunny seasons. The two rainfall seasons are March to June and October to November, a safari is still possible as the rains fall for only part of the day.
  • What kind of vehicle do you use for a safari?
    We use Customized 4WD land cruisers that can seat maximum 7 persons. 4WD minibuses seat maximum of 9 persons. In case a group has more than 9 persons and they want to travel together, we use a bus but all depends on the choice of a client. Flying to National Parks is also possible in Uganda.
  • Do I need to book a gorilla permit in advance?
    Yes, it is advisable to a book gorilla permit at least six months in advance and these are readily available online on Uganda Wildlife Authority website. The permits can be sold up to two years in advance.
  • What do I need to bring for gorilla tracking?
    The weather during gorilla trekking experience can be unpredictable and therefore carry a light waterproof jacket, at least one long sleeve t-shirt, have hiking boots, long pants/trousers, have a back pack that carries drinking water and lunch plus other essentials like binoculars and camera equipment. Avoid brightly coloured clothes.
  • What else do I need to bring with me?
    You need to bring items of personal nature like insect repellent and basic personal first aid kit. Basically, bring what you want to have on the trip.
